Real Madrid reacts to Leeds' £17 million offer for Gonzalo Garcia

As Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso's opinions on the young striker become clear, a source claims that Real Madrid has made a decision about Gonzalo Garcia's future in the face of interest from Leeds United and Sunderland. 

Although Garcia is not yet a well-known Madrid player, the 21-year-old striker is rapidly becoming a fan favourite because to his outstanding achievements for Los Blancos at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. 

In three competition games thus far, the Spaniard has netted two goals and provided one assist, helping Los Blancos advance as group champions to the Round of 16.

Garcia is unlikely to start regularly the following season, though, given the presence of players like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Endrick on the Madrid team. 

Clubs are lining up for Garcia, according to Fichajes, with Leeds already placing a sizable bid.

Leeds is still searching for a striker despite Lukas Nmecha joining Daniel Farke's team as a free agent.

This is especially true given that Patrick Bamford is already 31 and has a history of injuries. According to Fichajes, Leeds is "willing to pay €20 million (£17 million, $23.5 million) for Gonzalo Garcia." 

Given that Sunderland, AS Roma, and Real Oviedo have also "contacted" Madrid regarding Garcia and made "big offers," the West Yorkshire club's "offer" is reportedly "the most attractive."

Madrid wants to make sure they can bring Garcia back if he performs well elsewhere since they don't want to lose him. 

The article claims that Madrid wants to include a €30 million (£25.7 million, $35 million) buyout provision in Garcia's contract in case he departs this summer.

Sunderland is "willing to offer a loan with a mandatory purchase option if they manage to stay in the English top flight." 

Sunderland, like Leeds, was promoted to the Premier League for the 2025–2026 season. 

About €15 million (£13 million, $17.6 million) + €5 million (£4.3 million, $6 million) in variables would be that choice.

Oviedo and Roma have both gotten in touch with Madrid and informed Los Blancos that they would prefer a loan agreement for Garcia that does not include a buyout option.

Garcia is highly regarded in the Spanish club and came through the Madrid development system. Even though it will be difficult for the 21-year-old to play for Madrid every single week, Alonso has been pleased with the striker's performance thus far, likening him to Los Blancos great Raul.

Regarding Garcia, Alonso stated on June 27: "I had no doubts about Gonzalo," according to Goal. His actions are not shocking. At Castilla, he has done it numerous times. For him, anyway.

He's a standard number nine who moves effectively and knows when to wait for his chance. 

"I'm thrilled for him. His motions can be described as Raul-like. Regarding when the upcoming season will begin, no decisions have been made.

In recent weeks, the Spanish media has repeatedly asserted that Madrid is searching for a new striker with Joselu's profile—someone who can play in and around the opposition's penalty box and make an impression as a substitute. 

Alonso may choose to stick with Garcia even though players like Rasmus Hojlund, Roberto Firmino, and Tolu Arokodare have been linked to Madrid.

According to Real Madrid Confidential, a news site that focusses on Real Madrid, Alonso has persuaded Garcia to stay. 

Garcia, 21, is currently expected to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for the 2025–2026 season, despite interest from Celta de Vigo, Getafe, and Osasuna in a loan move.

Although anything might happen during the open summer transfer window, Garcia's strong performances and Alonso's endorsement suggest that Madrid is where his near future lies.
