Man Utd is "optimistic" about acquiring the "ideal center-forward" following "positive contacts."

As Viktor Gyokeres' position on a possible reunion with Ruben Amorim at the Red Devils been made public, Manchester United is reportedly hopeful that Hugo Ekitike would join them during the summer transfer window. 

Signing a top-tier striker is Manchester United's #1 priority during the summer transfer window.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund haven't demonstrated their ability to score goals frequently in the Premier League, as the Red Devils only scored 44 goals in 38 league games the previous season.

In order to increase Manchester United's chances of placing in the top four of the Premier League table the next season, manager Ruben Amorim is adamant about acquiring a striker.

Man Utd is reportedly in active negotiations to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Ekitike during the summer transfer window, according to FootMercato. 

Ekitike's efforts last season really delighted Manchester United, who have been fans since his time at Reims.

In 48 games during the 2024–25 season, the 22-year-old French striker scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists.

In April 2025, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves called the young player "the perfect center-forward" on TNT Sports. 

Man Utd has "taken concrete steps" to recruit Ekitike, according to FootMercato, and has "positive contacts" with his agency. 

The report claims that "discussions between Manchester United management and Hugo Ekitike's agent have accelerated over the past two days.

Manchester United and the player's entourage have had excellent success in their negotiations, indicating the Red Devils' genuine interest.

FootMercato observes. "After these constructive approaches, both parties are optimistic.

According to the source, Manchester United has also contacted Eintracht to ask about the transfer cost required to get the striker.

However, there are other teams interested in Ekitike besides Manchester United. Chelsea and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the young striker's circumstances and may take action of their own.

Even though Manchester United is making headway in their pursuit of Ekitike, it now appears doubtful that they will be successful in acquiring Gyokeres from Sporting CP. 

Amorim would love to have the striker join his team at Manchester United after working with him at Sporting CP.

The Guardian claims that Gyokeres's agents have informed Manchester United that "he does not wish to join the club."

The striker believes Arsenal to be his "dream" club and would want to join there instead. 

Similar assertions have also been made by reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, who wrote on X: "Despite calls from Manchester United in recent weeks, Viktor Gyökeres' priority is to join Arsenal this summer.

Gyökeres is always a possibility during Šeško negotiations; Arsenal continues to evaluate the situation as no deal has been finalised yet. "United is still interested but thinks a deal is now unlikely."
