Arsenal is negotiating a record-breaking release clause amount to recruit a Chelsea star.
Arsenal announced the departure of 20 players from their men's and women's teams on Wednesday, including the headline-grabbing names of Raheem Sterling, Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, and Neto.
The Blues will not obstruct the player's path, and Arsenal has begun negotiations to sign a Chelsea star who can leave for a huge sum via a release clause.
Last summer, Neto joined from Bournemouth on a season-long loan to be David Raya's backup.
That move came about as a result of Arsenal's unsuccessful attempt to capture Joan Garcia of Espanyol, who is now moving to Barcelona after a year.
Raya remained healthy, and Neto made just one appearance for the Gunners.
When his loan expires on June 30, he will return to home club Bournemouth, therefore Arsenal needs to find a competent bench substitute.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, the most expensive custodian in the world, is rumoured to be Chelsea's option for that replacement.
"Arsenal is considering a potential deal for Chelsea's GK Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is available for a £5 million release clause," wrote Sky Sports writer Luca Bendoni on X.
When Chelsea exercised the release clause in Kepa's contract with Athletic Bilbao in 2018, the Blues paid €80 million, or £71.6 million.
At the time, the Spaniard was the most costly custodian in the world, and no custodian transfer has ever surpassed that sum since.
Kepa, 30, was loaned to Bournemouth last season after Chelsea moved on from him, where he ironically forced Neto out.
Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed Bendoni's claim that a release provision in Kepa's contract can be activated for a pittance of £5 million.
Romano further emphasised that "initial talks" have been held regarding a surprise move to Arsenal.
Romano commented on X, "Arsenal is informed about Kepa's £5 million release clause as an option to be David Raya's backup.
According to Sky UK, "initial talks took place to be informed on deal conditions.
The reason Chelsea is done with Kepa During his loan with the Cherries, Kepa did well, but not good enough to persuade Chelsea to give him another chance.
Instead, the Blues are trying to get France and AC Milan star Mike Maignan at a reasonable price.
With just one year left on the 29-year-old's contract, Chelsea thinks a deal could be reached for as little as €10 million. Milan, meanwhile, is more interested in €30 million.
Chelsea won't give Kepa a reprieve at Stamford Bridge even if they are unable to sign Maignan.
A move to Arsenal across London might be the alternative, but only if Kepa is prepared to take a backup position.
