Two well-known players are wanted in a counter-raid against Atletico Madrid by bitter Tottenham.

According to a source, Tottenham is considering launching a counterattack on the La Liga powerhouses because they are upset that Atletico Madrid's interest in two Spurs players was made public.

The outcome of Tottenham's remaining Europa League games will determine their plans for the next summer transfer window. In the semi-finals, Spurs will play Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt; the victor of that match will either play Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao in the final.

Spurs will qualify for the Champions League if they win the tournament. In addition to the apparent cash boost, it will assist the club retain its best players and increase their prospects of attracting high-profile new players.

Centre-back Cristian Romero is one name that has recently made headlines in relation to possible departures. The Argentine is reportedly on Atletico Madrid's radar and has openly stated his ambition to play in La Liga someday.

In fact, earlier in April, Spanish reporter Edu Burgos stated: "Atletico Madrid is expediting the move for 'Cuti' Romero." Prior to the Club World Cup, Simeone's major priority. "There is nothing wrong with a personal agreement. It's negotiating with Tottenham. The prospect of residing in Madrid appeals to the player.

Romero isn't the only well-known Spurs player Atleti has their eye on, though, as reliable reporter Ben Jacobs confirmed in March that Rodrigo Bentancur is also a player of interest.

Regardless of whether they make it to the Champions League or not, Spurs would prefer not to lose either of the two players who are consistent starters in north London.

Additionally, Tottenham has not been pleased with Atleti's interest in Romero and Bentancur becoming public figures, according to a recent report from GiveMeSport.

Atletico Madrid's desire to sign Romero and Bentancur is real, according to GMS sources, but Tottenham is not entirely pleased that their interest has been made public and may make it difficult for the La Liga team to negotiate successfully if they don't reduce their demands, the report said.

Additionally, it was stated that Tottenham might try to counter-raid Diego Simeone and company to put them in their proper place.

Conor Gallagher has long been admired by Spurs, who last summer identified the all-action midfielder as Ange Postecoglou's ideal candidate.

Sadly for the Spurs manager, Gallagher was sold by Chelsea to Atletico Madrid for almost £34 million. In his first season with Atleti, Gallagher has made 42 appearances in all competitions, but he hasn't been a sure starter.

Spurs therefore see a chance to repatriate Gallagher to England, and according to GMS, they "may make a cheeky enquiry to sign Gallagher if Atletico Madrid come knocking for Romero and Bentancur.

According to the report, Gallagher is"enjoying his time" in La Liga and would not mind ending his stint in Spanish sport.

Since securing UCL football is the first step towards doing so, Spurs may have a difficult time changing the player's mind. Regarding Romero and Bentancur, GMS stated that Romero is the one who is more likely to depart.

'Tottenham has acknowledged that Romero's head will be turned by the opportunity to join Atletico Madrid, but GMS sources understand they are still more hopeful that Bentancur can be persuaded to stay in north London, especially if Ange Postecoglou is replaced in the dugout ahead of next season,' the report concluded.

Current Tottenham news: Is there a winger coming in or going out? In other news, Thesportmoment has learnt that Leeds United plans to sign Manor Solomon to a long-term contract after his impressive loan stint.

Leeds was automatically promoted to the Premier League thanks in large part to the Spurs winger, who has destroyed Championship defences.

Tottenham has no intention of reintegrating the winger into their first-team plans and is eager to sell. Dealmakers in Leeds are thrilled about that and plan to reach a deal with their counterparts in north London. According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham has set their sights on signing Jarrod Bowen, which is another indication that Solomon has no future at Spurs.
