The unexpected invitation to join Man City's Premier League opponent "tempted" Kevin De Bruyne.

As he looks for his next club, Kevin De Bruyne, a standout for Manchester City, is apparently giving Liverpool a serious consideration. 

After nearly ten years at the Etihad, the 33-year-old confirmed in April that he would be leaving City when his contract expired at the end of the current campaign.

With connections to the Saudi Pro League, Major League Soccer, the Premier League, and teams throughout Europe, speculation over De Bruyne's future has exploded. 

According to Italian reports, Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing him, although Napoli is now making the most noise in this regard. 

Additionally, the Belgian international is "tempted by an offer" from the Reds and is "seriously considering the approach" made by Arne Slot's Premier League champions, according to Il Mattino via CalcioNapoli1926.

According to the source, Antonio Conte's Napoli have offered a two-year contract and are awaiting De Bruyne's final decision, but the Anfield team's proposition is unknown. 

There will undoubtedly be plenty of transfer bids for the former Chelsea player in the upcoming weeks and months.

Divergent reports on Liverpool's interest

While this current rumour suggests that Liverpool have made an offer for De Bruyne’s services, something Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has backed up, other sections of the media insist this is not the case.

According to James Pearce, a writer for The Athletic regarding Liverpool, the Reds have no interest in bringing the veteran to the Merseyside team before the upcoming campaign. 

On the surface, that appears very likely given that Liverpool recently spent a lot of money extending the contracts of forward Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk, but they were unable to sign right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new contract.

Next month, De Bruyne will turn 34, and his injury history over the past few seasons is not encouraging. 

In addition, he receives a high salary at City, so if he were to join Liverpool, he would most likely have to accept a pay drop and possibly accept a more bit-part position. 

Players who meet his age profile are extremely hard to find for the Reds, especially since they have no sell-on value. Therefore, it would seem a little unrealistic to move to Anfield for the 2025–2026 season.
