Man Utd won gold as agreed upon by Matheus Cunha, but only after a significant compromise was made.
After the conditions of his £62.5 million (€75.5 million or $84 million) release clause at Wolves were fulfilled on Tuesday, Matheus Cunha is set to have a medical at Manchester United.
Since it was revealed last week that the Red Devils had made a major move in their pursuit of the attacker's signing, the two Premier League teams have been in constant communication on the payment terms of the agreement.
According to Sky Sports News, Wolves has now granted Man Utd authorisation to finalise the agreement with 26-year-old Cunha and begin a medical examination.
Even though the team will not be playing in Europe next season, the Brazilian is glad to be moving to Old Trafford.
Cunha does, in fact, still think that United is one of the greatest teams in the world and a desirable option for any player.
With 17 goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, the explosive attacker had yet another outstanding season for the Molineux team.
He is likely to line up as one of Ruben Amorim’s two No.10s next season, although he is capable of playing out wide or as a centre striker.
Man Utd is compelled to give in on Cunha payments.
Kaveh Solhekol, chief correspondent for Sky Sports News, has disclosed that United will have to pay the sum in three installments rather than the five they had originally requested.
What happened [on Tuesday] is that United contacted Wolves and said they would like to trigger the clause but would like to pay the £62.5m in five instalments," Solhekol stated while discussing the terms of the agreement.
We negotiated a new deal with the player in January; these are the conditions of the contract; if you want him, the £62.5 million must be paid in three installments over two years.
Wolves then stated, "You have to read the contract, it's there in black and white.United has returned to Wolves and stated that they will agree to those conditions.
Wolves have said, "Okay, that's all right, you've triggered the release clause. We will now give you permission to speak with the player and have the player have a medical."
United doesn't want to waste any more time and is pressing forward to sign him. Therefore, Matheus Cunha will join Manchester United if the medical goes smoothly.
The question of "where is the money coming from?" is being asked by many Manchester United supporters.
We believed United was having financial difficulties and had lost out on the Champions League, which might have cost them up to £100 million. Why can they afford to recruit Matheus Cunha right away?
Naturally, the £62.5 million will not be paid in one single sum; instead, it will be paid in three installments of £21 million, as is the case with most transfers.
Players will undoubtedly leave Manchester United this summer as well, but Cunha won't be the only addition.
Now, for a club the size of Manchester United, you would have to think that is affordable. Of course, they have financial fair play PSR concerns like any other teams.
I believe they will make more additions, but the ones they do make must be successful because many football people will tell you that Manchester United hasn't done a good enough job of recruiting.
