A journalist questions the "nailed-on" transfer as Liverpool jumps into the battle for a Wolves star.
Liverpool may pull off a last-minute transfer surprise after a journalist raised doubts about a deal for Milos Kerkez and Fabrizio Romano explained how an exit from Molineux looks for the Algerian.
Liverpool is still very much considering a move for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer.
Even if the Reds dominated their way to success in Arne Slot's first season as Liverpool's manager, they may still not have formally held the Premier League title trophy.
The Dutchman is already working on a long list of summer targets he hopes to sign in order to help establish a trophy dynasty at Anfield that will last, rather than resting on his laurels.
The club is thought to have finished their list of the talents they wanted added to their mix after our reporter Fraser Fletcher revealed earlier this year that Slot will be backed with a significant amount of money ahead of what sources told him would be a "historic window" on the red half of Merseyside.
A new left-back and a new striker will be at the top of their wish list. Both a new right-back to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is leaving, and a center-half to eventually replace Virgil van Dijk are viewed as desirable.
In fact, it was exclusively revealed by Thesportmoment in September of last year that Kerkez was the player at the top of their left-back wishlist.
And in recent weeks, there has been significant movement to bring the Hungarian to Anfield following a stellar season for Andoni Iraola's team.
And on Monday, the potential of a move to Anfield for Kerkez was also hyped up by The Times journalist, Jonathan Northcroft.
David Lynch, a reporter for Liverpool FC, maintains that the Reds have not yet made a final decision on their new left-back and asserts that a late trade for Wolves star Ait-Nouri cannot be completely ruled out. He told Anfield Index, "I still think left-back is up for debate.
You can't hang your hat on anyone, in my opinion.
I've always believed that Ait Nouri is still a possibility and hasn't been completely ruled out.
It raises some concerns that he is switching agencies when Wolves are reportedly trying to sign him to a new deal.
for me in terms of there’s a real likelihood that they accept they’ll have to do a deal for him if he doesn’t sign.”
To help secure a move, Liverpool's target changes agents.
"They've also put out what the fee would be to get him, so he remains a really interesting option," Lynch says, reaffirming Wolves' willingness to sell the 23-year-old full-back this summer.
Although Kerkez is unquestionably on the list and in the upper echelons, he isn't quite as perfect as has been portrayed.
Ait-Nouri recently changed agents to assist land him a major move this summer, as Lynch suggests.
Transfer specialist Romano confirmed that the 17-time Algerian international had joined CAA Stellar. Romano said on X, "Wolves LB Rayan Ait Nouri has signed with CAA Stellar as new representatives."
This Algerian LB is worth watching in the summer since, after five goals and seven assists this season, he is free to sign with any number of clubs.
Even with the connections to Ait-Nouri, a player we can confirm Liverpool has given significant consideration to, Kerkez remains the top target to join at left-back this summer, according to sporting director Richard Hughes and manager Slot, who think the 21-year-old has a bigger ceiling than the Wolves star.
As a result, we recognise that it would be shocking if Kerkez did not transfer to Anfield this summer, especially since Ian Wright recently declared it to be finalised.
The most recent Liverpool transfer: Real Madrid star talks start; Slot signing is not interested in
A 51-cap international star is pushing to leave Anfield this summer; one journalist says he would be "amazed" if the player were still there next season, and several clubs have already expressed interest in his services.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has reportedly scheduled face-to-face talks over the potential signing of Real Madrid star Rodrygo, and Xabi Alonso could help his former side seal a blockbuster deal.
The plan also involves Liverpool eyeing a brilliant Serie A forward valued at £51 million.
