Worth a chance: An incredible pitch for a Liverpool playmaker signing
Lee Sharpe, a former winger for Manchester United, has predicted that Liverpool will make a surprise transfer approach for Kevin De Bruyne, a legend of Manchester City, as one of the summer transfer window's top targets. With six games left and a commanding 13 points ahead of second-place Arsenal, Arne Slot's team is poised to win the Premier League, and speculation is already beginning to swirl about how the Dutchman might bolster his team in the summer.Although Trent Alexander-Arnold still appears set to complete his free-transfer move to Real Madrid, Liverpool has already checked off two enormous boxes by securing the futures of Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk. However, the Reds are being advised to grab De Bruyne as he leaves The Etihad in order to swap out one player for another, albeit in opposite roles.
In fact, Sharpe says he wouldn't be shocked if Anfield's transfer managers thought about making a surprise bid for the Belgian playmaker to give his team some much-needed depth and experience.
Sharpe sees no reason why Liverpool couldn't take a chance on a player who demonstrated last weekend against Crystal Palace that he is still capable of playing at an elite level, despite the 33-year-old starting just 14 Premier League games this season, mostly because of a hernia issue. "I think he'll remain in Europe. He's totally recovered over the past few weeks, and he's publicly stated that he's playing pain-free for the first time in a long time, which is a big deal for any player. I believe we're witnessing his greatest work," Sharpe told Stadium Asto.
I think he'll remain in Europe. He's totally recovered over the past few weeks, and he's publicly stated that he's playing pain-free for the first time in a long time, which is a big deal for any player. I believe we're witnessing his greatest work," Sharpe told Stadium Asto. He has reached a point in his life when he is relishing every moment since he is aware that it is coming to an end.
He might be worth a chance for Liverpool, in my opinion. When Gary McAllister was nearing the end of his career, I recall him being there and simply taking charge and maintaining order. Because of the strength of their roster, he wouldn't have to play every game and could secure a one-year contract with an extension if he stays healthy.
He may participate in specific games, which I believe would be a wise move for both him and Liverpool.
Joining the Reds would undoubtedly draw a lot of attention, and De Bruyne himself has left the door open to joining another Premier League team. Following the confirmation of his departure from City, De Bruyne was asked if he would consider transferring to another English country. He said, "If teams come and they can convince me that something sporting is nice, a nice project, I'm able." I feel like I can still perform at a very high level, even though I know I'm no longer the youngest.
"I love football, I love to play football, and if a nice project comes and my family is also good with that then we are able to make a decision." I'm not sure what teams are interested in or what they want to do, but I'm willing to listen to whatever idea is offered
Adding De Bruyne to a Liverpool midfield rotation including the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominic Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones would be a scary proposition for opponents next season, although it remains to be seen what sort of salary the Belgium international would demand and if such a switch is even feasible.
