 According to a rumour, Real Madrid shifted their focus to a massive raid on Manchester City, so Arsenal can finally finalise an advanced €60 million deal. For the third consecutive season, the Gunners appear set to finish second in the Premier League. But Mikel Arteta's Arsenal team is undoubtedly headed in the right path, as seen by their run to the Champions League semifinals.

Plans are already in motion for a massive summer transfer window in order to improve next term. When it was announced in January that Arsenal had signed Martin Zubimendi for the summer, the Daily Mail took the lead. The 26-year-old midfielder for Real Sociedad and Spain is available for a €60 million release clause. Although it is evident that a deal cannot be finalised until the summer window opens, it was reported to be fairly advanced. As a result, there are rumours that Real Madrid will steal the midfield star, even if Arsenal is still certain they will be the ones to acquire him.

Indeed, after failing to find a replacement for Toni Kroos, who retired last year, Los Blancos are also looking for a sophisticated midfield player. The 39-year-old Luka Modric will also need to be replaced as soon as possible. When FootMercato reported a few days ago that Zubimendi now supports a move to Real Madrid if he does leave Real Sociedad, it raised alarms in north London. Although Zubimendi is a player of interest at Real Madrid, according to the most recent Cadena SER news, he is not their top target. That distinction belongs to Rodri, the current Ballon d'Or winner and Man City star. Real Madrid considers the 28-year-old to be their "chosen one," and they think "negotiations are possible."

Rodri is given priority over Zubimendi by Real Madrid. It makes sense that Real Madrid has some unanswered questions regarding Rodri: will he be the same player after undergoing knee surgery?

But Rodri's style of play has never been centred on speed, and players like Virgil van Dijk have shown that even after suffering an ACL damage, one can still be a superstar. Real Madrid's attempts to sign the Spaniard may be aided by veteran defender Dani Carvajal, who is rumoured to be close to Rodri personally.
