As a top striker rejects Chelsea in favour of switching to the Emirates, Arsenal is in paradise.
According to sources from Portugal, Arsenal is "at the front of the queue" to recruit Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has no interest in joining rival bidders Chelsea. Mikel Arteta has made finding a new center-forward his top goal this summer after Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus' injuries revealed the Gunners' deficiency in that position.
Since joining Sporting in 2023 from Coventry City, Gyokeres, 26, has been nothing short of spectacular, scoring an astounding 90 goals and dishing up 26 assists in 96 games for the Portuguese powerhouse.
A Bola claims that Arsenal is "best placed" to capture the Swedish international this summer, despite the fact that many clubs are mulling summer bids for Gyokeres. Sporting is eager to trade Gyokeres for closer to €70 million (£60 million), but his contract has a €100 million (£86 million) release clause that expires in 2028.
According to the source, Arsenal is "in the front" and the "best placed club to sign the Swede," even if Chelsea is interested in Gyokeres. Gyokeres is said to favour Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Chelsea is not mentioned, which gives the Gunners a better chance of acquiring him.
Viktor Gyokeres was rejected by Chelsea, according to a report published on April 14 by Thesportmoment transfer expert Rudy Galetti, who also stated that Gyokeres is still on Arsenal's summer shortlist.
Andrea Berta, the new sporting director of the Gunners, is researching a number of potential targets after being assigned the responsibility of acquiring a prolific center-forward. Alexander Isak of Newcastle is still Arsenal's top target, but a move is extremely unlikely given his rumoured £150 million worth.
As a result, Arsenal has focused on Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig as less expensive options.
Galetti also stated that Chelsea is considering making a summer move for Gyokeres, who is admired by the Sporting forward.
The Blues are still interested in Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, but they have cooled their interest in former striker target Victor Osimhen and prefer Gyokeres. Chelsea will have a difficult time persuading Gyokeres to go to Stamford Bridge, though, if the most recent claims from Portugal are to be believed. Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea, is eager to add a new center-forward this summer to rival Nicolas Jackson, but Delap is now a more likely addition than Gyokeres.
