Even though Chelsea might have a great season, the London team is already making plans for the summer transfer market. The Blues, who are only one point off the final Champions League berth in the Premier League standings, are eager to improve their goalkeeping.

Enzo Maresca's top goalie, Robert Sanchez, is a 27-year-old Spaniard who has made some well-publicized mistakes. According to Thesportmoment, Chelsea, who advanced to the UEFA Conference League semifinals this year, has identified Costa, the custodian for Porto, as a possible summer target. The London team has chosen to go up against Premier League rivals Man United and Man City for Costa, who goalkeeping coach Pedro Pereira called a "very complete goalkeeper" in an article published in The Athletic in July 2023.

Chelses are currently keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old Portugal international custodian, according to sources who spoke to Thesportmoment.Costa's contract with Porto has a €75 million (£64.5 million, $86 million) release clause; but, as the goalkeeper's deal expires in 2027, the club may be willing to negotiate a lower price. We are aware, though, that the Portuguese club is unlikely to provide a significant discount—possibly about €5–€10 million less than the clause. Last summer, Chelsea made an attempt to sign Costa after reaching out in late May.

At the time, Manchester City was also interested in the Portuguese goalie. The Blues ultimately signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal after Chelsea's attempt to sign Costa last summer failed.

Mike Maignan, the custodian for AC Milan, is still a target for Chelsea, according to a March report from Thesportmoment. Compared to Costa, the 29-year-old France international custodian is more reasonably priced, and Milan may be willing to pay about €40 million (£34.4 million, $46 million) for him.

Sources say Bayern Munich is interested in Diogo Costa. Costa has caught the attention of several elite European clubs besides Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City. German powerhouse Bayern is reportedly keeping an eye on Costa as a possible summer transfer target, according to sources who spoke to Thesportmoment. At the top of the Bundesliga standings, eight points ahead of the reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern is looking for a permanent replacement for Manuel Neuer.

Although Neuer is 39 years old and his contract with the Bundesliga team expires in the summer of 2026, he has been one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. Thesportmoment is aware that Bayern considers Costa, the custodian for Porto, to be a serious contender to succeed Neuer.
